The Coaching Academy facilitates the coordination of campus-related programs and programming related to coaching careers. Through partnership and cooperation with the Departments of Undergraduate Studies; Recreation, Park and Tourism Sciences; Health and Kinesiology; and academic support services inside and outside of the Athletic Department, several impactful experiences occurred this past year.
One example of this partnership was the 2014 Texas A&M Sequor Youth Development Initiative (YDI) Conference on April 7-8, 2014. In conjunction with Dr. Chris Harrist (Assistant Professor and Extension Specialist, Department of Recreation, Park and Tourism Sciences), Dr. John Thornton presented “Alignment, Motivation, and Coordination in Youth Sport Programming.” The Sequor YDI conference served as a resource for further developing, improving, and evaluating the impact of current youth development programs and services.
